A New Frontier for Computational Intelligence

نویسنده

چکیده

Approaches to computational intelligence, including neural networks, fuzzy systems and evolutionary computation, are converging to a common frontier --autonomous mental development (AMD). This article explains what AMD is and why computational intelligence can fully expand its power at this frontier. As an example, this paper discusses a theory, an architecture, and some experimental results of AMD. Juyang Weng Michigan State University

A new methodology for deriving the efficient frontier of stocks portfolios: An advanced risk-return model

In this paper after a general literature review on the concept of Efficient Frontier (EF), an important inadequacy of the Variance based models for deriving EFs and the high necessity for applying another risk measure is exemplified. In this regard for this study the risk measure of Lower Partial Moment of the first order is decided to replace Variance. Because of the particular shape of the pr...

Simulation of Information-based Social Networks: Virtual Computational Fields Approach

Proposed interdisciplinary work presents conceptual framework for the simulation of information-based social networks. Some new principles and approaches are introduced. This paper, however, concentrates more on one key aspect, i.e. virtual computational field approach (VCF). In fact, VCF constructs a virtual medium for information and resources exchange between heterogeneous social agents. Soc...

Computational Creativity: The Final Frontier?

Notions relating to computational systems exhibiting creative behaviours have been explored since the very early days of computer science, and the field of Computational Creativity research has formed in the last dozen years to scientifically explore the potential of such systems. We describe this field via a working definition; a brief history of seminal work; an exploration of the main issues...

Research Frontier Memetic Computation - Past, Present & Future

From the word "mimeme" of Greek origin, Dawkins coined the term "meme" in his 1976 book on "The Selfish Gene" [1]. He defined it as being "the basic unit of cultural transmission or imitation". These days, the monosyllabic word "meme" that is an analog of the word "gene" has since taken flight to become one of the most successful metaphorical ideologies in computational intelligence. The new sc...

3 Is the Next Frontier in Neuroscience a ‘ Decade of the Mind ’ ? 1 Jacqueline

In 2007, ten world-renowned neuroscientists, including James Albus, George Bekey, John Holland, Nancy Kanwisher, Jeffrey Krichmar, Mortimer Mishkin, Dharmendra Modha, Marcus Raichle, Gordon Shepherd, and Giulio Tononi advocated in a letter published in Science for “a major national research initiative called ‘A Decade of the Mind’” (Albus et al. 2007, 1321). Their contention was that, despite t...
